About Black River Organics

We are a USDA certified organic fruit and vegetable farm in Wellington, Ohio, farmed by Chester Bowling and Ginnette Simko. Our main crops include blueberries, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, but we grow a wide variety of seasonal produce because we love to cook – and eat – fresh, nutritious, local food! We have two high tunnels on the farm, which allow us to harvest fresh produce ten months out of the year. In the summer, we also host a popular 5-acre blueberry u-pick.

Black River Organics is an employee owned enterprise. Instead of the one owner and many employees business model, our business is owned by the people who work in it. The co-owners make democratic decisions about the business and share equally in the profits.

We are also proud to be the learning farm for the Lorain County Community College Sustainable Agriculture program. Chet teaches seasonal Crop Production courses on the farm, and we also provide employment and internship opportunities for our students. Ginnette is a graduate of the SAGR program at LCCC. Our interns this summer are SAGR students Jim Goforth and Jessica Roberts!
